방송이라는 현상이 먼저 존재했고 그 현상을 이론으로 정리한 것이 방송학이라는 것이다. 그런 의미에서 볼 때 아주 귀중한 방송 이론서가 출간되었다. 저자인 심택월은 아주 독특한 이력을 가지고 있다. PBC평화방송, GS홈쇼핑, KFM경기방송 등 3개의 방송사에서 창립멤버로 근무하였다. 그러다보니 자연스레 방송 시스템 전반에 걸친 지식을 오롯이 축적할 수 있었을 것이다. 게다가 그는 특이하게도 방송생활 내내 아나운서와 PD를 겸하였다. 그리고 청운대학교 방송산업학과의 겸임교수로 후학을 가르치기도 하였다. 그러한 점들이 그가 방송진행과 연출 이라는 전문서를 펴낼 수 있었던 배경이다.
